Celebrating Australian Made Week 2025
As Australian Made Week comes around again, it's a perfect moment to reflect on what the label really means. For us at D&D Technologies, it's the bedrock of our story, and the foundation of our relentless focus on quality and durability. If it isn’t “Aussie tough”, we won’t put our name on it.
Today, our products are sold around the world, but our journey began right here in Australia. Back in 1989, the ingenuity of our founder, David Doyle, sparked the creation of the MagnaLatch® – a product born in an Australian workshop that has since become a worldwide benchmark for pool safety. This story of innovation, starting from a simple idea and growing into a global success, is something we’re incredibly proud of.
We spoke to Justin Francis who started at the company in 1997 and is currently D&D's Sales & Marketing Director.
“There's a real sense of pride that comes with knowing we design and manufacture our products right here in Australia,” says Justin Francis.
“From the initial concept to the final product rolling off the assembly line in our Sydney factory, we have a direct connection to the quality and integrity of everything we produce.”
This hands-on approach means that the high standards we set ourselves are consistently met.
Built to last
For our partners in the fencing and hardware industries, and for homeowners seeking reliable solutions, the durability and performance of gate hardware are critical. We take this seriously, because as is the case for backyard pool safety, people’s lives depend on it. But it’s not just kids that our products protect — nobody wants unwanted access to their property or the escape of a beloved pet because of a faulty latch or gate hinge.
Our rigorous testing, often pushing our products beyond typical demands, reflects our unwavering commitment to quality. As Justin explains,
“We don't just meet standards; we aim to exceed them. Our comprehensive testing, alongside independent ISO audits, provides the assurance that D&D hardware is built to last and performs flawlessly.”
This commitment to durability is particularly relevant given the harsh Australian climate. From scorching summers and intense UV exposure to salty coastal air, Australian conditions demand robust products. Our extensive testing regimes specifically account for these factors, ensuring D&D hardware can withstand even the most challenging environments.
Local strength and reliability
In today's interconnected world, the strength of local manufacturing offers significant advantages. The challenges of global supply chains underscore the stability and reliability that come with Australian production.
“In a fluctuating global landscape, our Australian manufacturing provides a consistent and dependable source of premium products for our partners,” says Justin. “This local foundation ensures we can deliver the quality our customers expect without the uncertainties of distant or disrupted supply chains.”
Ultimately, our choice to remain Australian Made is a powerful investment in our local economy and workforce.
“We believe in supporting Australian jobs and the positive impact it has on our communities,” says Justin. “By choosing D&D, our customers are not only selecting the world’s most trusted gate hardware but also contributing to the strength and innovation of Australian industry.”
