Young Gun: Ryan Addison of Addison Fencing & Gates

Growing up around the tools and the trade, Ryan Addison practically had fencing in his blood. His father, Scott, a respected figure in the Western Sydney fencing scene for over three decades, laid the groundwork for Addison Fencing & Gates' stellar reputation. “I started helping Dad on site when I was a kid,” Ryan recalls.

“I just caught the bug. There was no question for me; I left school at 15 to work full-time in the business. Dad’s taught me everything, and he’s been my biggest champion, training me up to eventually take the reins.”

Specialising in Colorbond® and pool fencing in steel and aluminium, Addison Fencing & Gates has become a go-to for quality installations throughout the local area. Their strong reputation means they’re consistently busy, a testament to their dedication and expertise. For Ryan, the appeal of the job lies in its tangible nature and the constant problem-solving it demands. “I’m a hands-on person, I love being outdoors,” he explains. “What I really enjoy about fencing is that no two days are the same. Every job is a bit different, and it’s all about working with clients to help them see their vision come to life.”

Over the past decade working alongside his father, Ryan has immersed himself in every facet of the business. From the initial site measurements and crafting quotes to meeting with clients, fabrication, installation, and even design – he’s gained a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to deliver exceptional service. “I couldn't imagine being stuck in an office,” says Ryan. “Being outside, seeing the progress of a job, and the satisfaction of a happy client – that’s what drives me.”

Turning 25 this year, Ryan is already thinking about the future and the legacy he wants to build. “My goal is to continue what Dad started for at least the next 30 years, upholding the same standards of quality. I’d love to grow the business so we can employ more people.”

With a young family, including a child on the way, the possibility of a third generation of Addison Fencing & Gates isn't far from his mind. For those considering a career in fencing, Ryan offers some grounded advice: “You’ve got to look after your body. It's physical work. But it’s a good, solid trade, and it’s well-paying once you get through the early years.” He also speaks warmly of his father's influence: “He’s been my biggest influence in both my work and personal life. I’ve always looked up to him, and he’s the first person I go to for advice. He’s also a great mentor to other guys in our business; he’s just that kind of guy.”

One element of Addison’s commitment to quality is their long-standing use of D&D Technologies products in their gate installations. “We’ve been using D&D products for years,” says Ryan. “Their hinges and latches are fantastic, especially for pool fencing where safety and reliability are non-negotiable. We’ve never had any faults with them, and over the years, products like the TruClose® hinge and MagnaLatch® have just gotten even better with all the innovation that the D&D team puts into their range.”

Shane Hubbard of Fencing and Gate Centre echoes this sentiment, highlighting Ryan’s dedication and the strong foundation laid by his father:

“Ryan has taken over his father's business, Addison Fencing, who have been well-known in the Fencing Industry in Western Sydney for the past 30+ years. Specialising in Colorbond®, Picket, Tubular, and the full range of fencing, they've proudly partnered with us to manufacture all their products and have always used top-of-the-range D&D products. Ryan's commitment to excellence in business and fencing is second to none and is well deserving of industry recognition.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Congratulations to Ryan Addison on his recognition as one of the rising stars of the fencing industry.
